Since 1688, Harry-Brot GmbH has been baking according to traditional craftsmanship rules. But from its small, family-owned bakery in Altona, it has now become Germany's market leader for bread and baked goods. However, to reliably supply 12,850 stores and over 10,000 baking stations in retail with its grain products daily, precise planning and efficiency in internal logistics are crucial. Consumers expect not only high product quality but also that their favorite bread is always available on the shelf.
Accordingly, the baker has recently taken a step that would likely be in line with Johann Hinrich Harry's vision: "We are relying on automated solutions. Only in this way can we combine economic efficiency and sustainability. We have now found the right partner for our automation strategy with SYNAOS," says Norbert Lötz, Managing Director of Production and Technology at Harry-Brot GmbH. "Producing bread and baked goods in large quantities and fresh daily would be significantly more difficult without automated intralogistics processes. That’s why we use driverless transport systems like AGVs to transport the numerous kettles and baking racks. For us as a producer of staple foods, high flexibility is a crucial success factor—we must always keep an eye on our customers' and consumers' needs and be able to respond quickly to changes."
SYNAOS has been supporting Harry-Brot GmbH with this automation since autumn 2023. The SYNAOS Intralogistics Management Platform (IMP) will control a total of six AGVs in two processes at the Soltau plant of the North German baked goods manufacturer. Underride robots transport dough and various trays to the production line. SYNAOS IMP also manages the warehouse, determining which type of tray is in which line in the warehouse.
